(Matthew 22:15-22)
15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said. 16 And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone. 17 Tell us then, what do You think? Is it permissible to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax.” And they brought Him a denarius. 20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” 21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 And hearing this, they were amazed; and they left Him and went away.TODAY'S TAKEAWAY:
God is very practical and very fair! God is also all-knowing, so let's not think that we can pull one over on Him. Our relationship with the Lord is the most important one that we can ever have. And while He should come first in our lives (and if we have a spouse, they should come second), all else should be put into perspective. While following Jesus' example, we are not to be partial to anyone. Be in the world, but not of the world. This includes submitting to the authorities that are in place, and obeying the laws of our country, as long as they do not go against God's will. So, with that, as far as we are able, we are to live at peace with others, while striving to live in God's will, with His help and guidance.
