(Genesis 3:20-24) Now the man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all the living. 21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.
TODAY'S THOUGHTS AND MEDITATION:
Here, God protected Adam and Eve in two ways. The first way was physically. God created them and they were naked and unashamed, but now because sin had entered the world, being naked became an issue. And as other people were going to be born into the world, they had to realize that seeing someone naked should be reserved for marriage.
Clothing can be a way for someone to express themselves, but we have to ask ourselves what is being expressed, and how will other people interpret that. Yes, how we dress is a personal choice, and no one should be judged, or viewed as a sex-object, or consider that someone is "asking to be raped", but people are born with a sinful nature. We cannot stop people from lusting or thinking the worst, no matter what we do, but we can ask ourselves, do we want to give someone more things to "work with" which might inspire their evil thoughts and actions?
Another way God protected Adam and Eve was spiritually. They had just eaten from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and therefore brought spiritual and physical death into the world. If they had eaten from the tree of life at that point in time, they would have remained in that state forever. God does not want that for anyone. God desires that all come to know Him, and so, gives everyone a fair opportunity to seek Him for the forgiveness of sins and have a close personal relationship with Him.
