relationships (Genesis 5:6-32) Walk With God

(Genesis 5:6-32)  Seth lived one hundred and five years, and became the father of Enosh. Then Seth lived eight hundred and seven years after he became the father of Enosh, and he had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.

Enosh lived ninety years, and became the father of Kenan. 10 Then Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years after he became the father of Kenan, and he had other sons and daughters. 11 So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died.
12 Kenan lived seventy years, and became the father of Mahalalel. 13 Then Kenan lived eight hundred and forty years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he had other sons and daughters. 14 So all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.
15 Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Jared. 16 Then Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years after he became the father of Jared, and he had other sons and daughters. 17 So all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died.
18 Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and became the father of Enoch. 19 Then Jared lived eight hundred years after he became the father of Enoch, and he had other sons and daughters. 20 So all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died.
21 Enoch lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah. 22 Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
25 Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and became the father of Lamech. 26 Then Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years after he became the father of Lamech, and he had other sons and daughters. 27 So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.
28 Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and became the father of a son. 29 Now he called his name Noahsaying, “This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the Lord has cursed.” 30 Then Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years after he became the father of Noah, and he had other sons and daughters. 31 So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.
32 Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

TODAY'S THOUGHTS AND MEDITATION:

It is pointed out here that Enoch walked with God, but it isn't mentioned with any of the other men, so we can only speculate that the others did not have a close relationship with the Lord (other than Noah whom we'll hear more about in the next few chapters).  But from verse 29, we have to wonder how some of these other men chose to see things.

As we will read in the next chapter, God became sorry for creating mankind, because at this point the world had become so very wicked.  Lamech is a prime example of how one can go down the wrong path.  It isn't God's fault that the ground is cursed, yet he blamed God for this.  And instead of putting his hope in the all-powerful Creator, Lamech placed his hope in his son, Noah, expecting that he would somehow bring everyone rest from their toil and rest from the curse.  How?

There isn't any human who can save us spiritually... not our spouse, not our children, not our government... Because sin entered our world, we live in a fallen state, and we are all born with a sin nature.  Where there is sin, there is death.  There isn't any hope in mankind at all.  We are hopeless and powerless.  Our only hope is the Lord!

Most people know the story of Noah, who trusted God's instructions to build an ark to house himself, his family, and some animals, because God was going to destroy everything else.  Then, through Noah's seed would eventually come the Israelites, and from the Israelites would eventually come Jesus - the Lord God in flesh!  He came in flesh to die in our place to pay the price and have victory over the curse of sin and death, so that we could walk with God!  Jesus is the only way, and the only one who is able to give us rest from the curse - when - we choose to believe and put our faith, hope and trust in Him!
