relationships (Genesis 3:7-13) Repent and Confess

(Genesis 3:7-13)  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, Where are you?” 10 He said, I heard the sound of You in the garden, and was afraid because was naked; so hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and ate.”

TODAY'S THOUGHTS AND MEDITATION

Adam and Eve tried to fix their spiritual problem by doing something physical.  Immediately after sinning, they quickly tried to make clothes for themselves in order to cover up their sin and shame.  Also immediately after, they felt fear;  so when the Lord God (Jesus pre-incarnate) approached them, they tried to hide.  But God is always near because He is omnipresent, and He knows where we are and what we are doing because He is omniscient!  So when the Lord asked Adam and Eve what they had done, it's not that He didn't already know the answer, He was giving them both the opportunity to repent and confess their sin.

Interestingly, Adam and Eve had sinned together, then together they tried to hide their sin instead of dealing with it, and then they became defensive - turning on each other - each man for himself!  Adam blamed God and Eve for his sin, and Eve blamed the serpent.  Just like we cannot control what anyone else does or doesn't do, no one can control what we do.  We are responsible to repent and confess our own sins.  The sooner - the better!  In repenting our sins there is forgiveness and freedom from sin.  And in confessing and apologizing for our sins there is reconciliation.
