relationships (Genesis 2:18-25) Love and Companionship

 I'm going to go over some of the same verses again, because I feel this is important...

 (GENESIS 2:18-25)  Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call themand whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.  21 So the Lord God caused deep sleep to fall upon the manand he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 The man said,

This is now bone of my bones,
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”
24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

TODAY’S THOUGHTS AND MEDITATION:

From these verses, we can see how much God loves and cares about us.  Even though He created us to have a close, personal relationship with Him, with us putting Him first in our lives, He still made us social, with a desire to be around other people.  And He did make us sexual, with a desire to find a spouse and be married.

God's purpose in creating the woman was that she would not only be a companion, but she would be a suitable helper.  So, while helping out with physical labor, a husband and wife can and should also help each other remain accountable to God... to stay focused on the Lord and doing His will.  Iron sharpening iron.

Now, after the fall of man when sin was brought into the world, whether a person is married or not, we can find fellowship with other believers at church, where we are meant to encourage and help each other remain accountable to God.  It is all too easy to allow a spouse or another person distract us.  The person who was meant to help us stay focused on the Lord can also lead us away from the Lord.

It is not necessary to be married in order to feel complete, because only the Lord can complete us.  Only through salvation can we find spiritual joy, peace, contentment, purpose and fulfillment.  Only Jesus can literally be our soulmate!!!  Therefore, whether talking about a marriage or simply a friendship, it benefits all of us when we strive to get closer to God.  The closer we all get to the Lord, the closer we will get to each other.
